Butterflies A Flutter

Started another Silk Embroidery Class this Tuesday. Using a coral tee shirt as the foundation, the first step was to transfer a pattern onto the shirt fabric. Once this was done, the stage was set for embroidery. Decision was made to finish the design in a mixed medium (silk ribbon and embroidery floss). The greenery was done in 2 mm silk ribbon. So is the yellow interior of the wings of the main butterfly. The additional butterflies (or dragonflies) were done with shaded purple rayon embroidery floss. This same floss was used for the french knots in the butterfly wings. A stain stitch was used with a medium mauve 2 mm silk ribbon. Other embroidery stitches used include: outline stitch, laisy daisy.

The contrasting colors on the coral background lifts this design adding character to it. See below.

This project is also a refashioning project. The coral tee shirt is one I pulled from my closet. It is rather enjoyable to find a way to enhance an existing wardrobe piece. Personalizing my wardrobe through creativity. Not too shabby. What do you think?
